Human beings always put their health and fitness off until it’s the “perfect time”.

“When work is less busy”

“After my next vacation”

But here’s the thing, you can see real, measurable progress by being 80% consistent with your nutrition.

In fact, Precision Nutrition just released a study of 1000 people that shows that being 80-89% consistent is far more sustainable than being 90-100% consistent and that over the course of a year the group who was 80-89% consistent only lost 4 pounds less than those who were 90-100% consistent.

I’m going to repeat that, over the course of a year, the group who was 80-89% consistent, who had more flexibility and freedom in their diet, who didn’t use their busy life as a justification not to start or to quit when they couldn’t do it 100%, came within 4 pounds of those who were overly strict and let their diets consume their life.

After working with many clients over the years and testing different diets myself, I’ve found that having an “all or nothing” mentality and being over-restrictive in your diet will almost always lead to a binge.

What does 80-89% consistency look like? Let’s use nutrition for this example:

If we take the next 30 days as an example, it looks like hitting your custom calories and protein as close as possible up until your next social outing or night out with your significant other.

It looks like being able to enjoy those moments with no guilt, shame or anxiety over the food you eat.

It looks like eating nutritious food most of the time but giving yourself some grace and love by having the cookie and not feel guilty about it.

And if we do some quick math, 30 days / 80% = 24 days. To hit 80% consistency, we need to be 100% on track for 24 days. We can be a little more lenient the other 5 days.

And at the end of the 30 days, you’ll be leaner, happier and healthier.

You’ll be better prepared to get back on track after a night of not tracking food.

You’ll see consistent results.
